CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Class: Glass Beads
Teacher: Carowyn Silveroak
Class Synopsis:
This is a basic class to learn how to make glass beads on a hothead
torch . Tips, tricks, pointers, and all-around schmoozing will occur, and
you can come in anytime to learn - the basic class will be given many
times throughout the period, and you are welcome to join the rotation
whenever you wish! Those who have already taken a class or two can jump
in for more torch time periodically, and more advanced tips and skills
can be taught on request. You will leave with at least 3 beads you've
made; depending on how many people are taking the class, you may be able
to get back on the torch for more.
Since this is a Viking-themed event, Viking styles will be the primary
focus, but I generally range over any time period when it comes to glass!
Feel free to ask any questions as they come to mind.
Please wear close-toed shoes and natural fabrics - we provide safety
glasses and aprons, but wearing 100% cotton, linen, leather, etc. is a
Good Thing. Natural fabrics char, whereas synthetics melt. Loose hair and
long sleeves should also be bound up and away from the torch.
Cost: To cover materials costs, I ask for $1 per bead you make, if you
can afford it. Don't let cost stop you from coming!
Class: The Game of Kubb
Teacher: Corwyn Ravenwing
Class Synopsis: A "traditional" Scandinavian game Meaning we can't prove its period, but it's old, and it's fun! We have a set, and we'll bring it, and teach it, and addict everyone....
Class: Hands on Dyeing
Teacher: Carol Huff
Class Synopsis:
Hands on dyeing with indigo, a red dye and a yellow dye (exact ones TBD later). By combining 3 mordants (alum, copper, iron), 3 fibers and multiple over dyes, 63 colors can be produced. Bright, happy colors for the most part. Students will get pre-mordanted test strips and handouts.
•Pre reg is strongly encouraged, so the samples can be prepared. Some extras may be available day of.
•If you wish to bring small skeins to dye, they will be done after the class samples are dyed. Letting me know in advance would be good...
•Wear clothes that can get splattered. Dyes are 'magnetically' attracted to good clothes <G>
•Cost $8
Ability to whip out actual color samples, priceless...
