I'm not buying it, Mags, sorry. If you can come up with such a clever mnemonic device for expressing the way I pronounce my name, you should be able to SPELL your "traveling companion's" name.

Yes, my fellow Celt, Tua, Mags has trouble spelling my name. But in her defense, so do 98% of other SCAdians. Even most heralds (Sorry my dear Eleazar) have trouble spelling Gwenfrewy Llangynog correctly. They either leave out letters or end Gwenfrewy with an i instead of a Y. I can forget about anyone pronouncing the Welsh to me, so that's why I anglicized Gwenfrewy into Winifred. That way, people could at least pronounce Winifred when they addressed me.

Names and Spelling

Keep in mind that in the Middle Ages, a lower level noble like myself probably wasn't well educated. I hung around with nuns who taught me to paint icons and a little reading and writing. Just enough to spell things wrong while making a valiant attempt. :)

yea, but..... there is the one quote (I forget who said it) "Those who pay attention to how they are spelling words are not paying attention to what they are saying."

and the last person who accused me of being able to spell was laughed out of the state.
